The current education world faces critical challenges in response to the rapid global changes.

On 6 September 2022, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya not only celebrated its 40th anniversary but also commemorated the theme “Embarking on Fundamental Resetting.” The Rector of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, Prof. Dr. Djisman Simandjuntak, formulated the vital “fundamental resetting” concept. “This concept will be the key element that needs to be adapted and applied by all educational institutions to answer the global challenges with its accelerating changes,” he added.

Our modern days are facing tremendous and numerous changes. For a start, there is an undeniably drastic climate change. In addition to that, as a consequence of the rising number of technology-adaptive young generation, there are massive demographic changes. These are all resulting in the shifting geopolitical and economical faces, where the power of the global economy has migrated to the Asian region. “With this “fundamental resetting” concept, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya pledges to accelerate and escalate various scientific-based collaborations,” added Prof. Djisman.

The spirit of collaboration (in the Indonesian language, it is known as “gotong royong”) is a traditional cultural concept that has been applied in the Universitas Prasetiya Mulya campus environment for the past 40 years. Countless collaborations have been done to produce qualified students who own the poise in collaboration work, strong will, resilience, and orientation to details.

One factual move to adapt to the ever-changing nature of the modern era, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya has widened its wings by acquiring STEM fields in its study program choices. The fundamental reason for collaborating in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields in the study program choices is not without credible reasons. Prof Djisman said, “Complex and collaborative STEM fields that play an important role in our world civilization have become the main reason to regenerate the study program choices at Universitas Prasetiya Mulya.”

It is unquestionable that mastery of the STEM fields is absolutely necessary for Indonesia to claim a respectable position in the eyes of the world. “At Prasetiya Mulya, we encourage the spirit of collaboration in our students by combining social science with STEM as alternatives to solve life’s problems,” added Prof. Djisman. The arguments stated by Prof. Djisman are based on his involvement in Think 20 (T20) where he serves as the Lead Co-Chair. T20 is officially a G20 engagement group that is responsible for linking and collaborating the regional and international think tanks and providing research-based policy recommendations to the G20.
