Kanga is a chair included in the Children Products / Baby & Children Products category where the product can be used by babies and children. The Covid-19 pandemic which forced activities to be carried out at home was the main problem that became the initial basis for their team to come up with ideas. Work from home presents its own challenges for parents where they have to keep working while taking care of their children. Therefore, their team created Kanga as a solution to this problem. The name Kanga was inspired by the kangaroo which is also the inspiration for their product. Kangaroos still provide warmth for their children even though they are still active, which is the same synopsis with the main function of Kanga. Parents can still work in their chairs and look after their children at the same time. With the position of the child's bearing on the front of the chair, parents can still supervise their child while providing warmth to the little one. It is no surprise if we have students representing our university in IDA 2021. I Ketut Danta (Product Design Engineering 2019) and Angelina Love Valentine Ku (Product Design Engineering 2020) participated in the event in collaboration with two students from Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Together they came up with a product idea based on the change of habits due to COVID-19 pandemic. Since most of our activities are done from home, they thought of a chair design with minimalist concept that can help users to exercise. The end goal was for users to be able to maintain immunity and health by using the chair as intended. Their design was a chair called FlipX. They won the Gold Award on IDA 2021 in the Product Design Category. Let’s congratulate them! A handful of designers, thinkers and entrepreneurs created the International Design Awards in 2007 as a response to a lack of recognition and to celebrate smart and sustainable multidisciplinary designs.
