Why Study in S1 Product Design Innovation (Product Design Engineering) Program?

Study Program Characteristics

Undergraduate of Product Design Engineering, the Universitas Prasetiya Mulya positions itself is as a Product Design study program that is oriented to the development of technological products with color engineering and touch of innovation. Designers / design engineers who have the competences to design technological products are always needed by modern society to live more meaningful, sustainable, inclusive and environmentally friendly.
In our study program, these technology products are divided into 3 groups:
1. Consumers products & appliances
Products in this category are products that are directly used by consumers to run daily activities, such as electronic products, household appliances, kitchen utensils, packaging, furniture, sports equipment, toys, etc.
2. Assistive technology & medical devices
Products in this category utilize technology are to assist people with special needs and/or are used as medical devices, including wheelchairs, walkers, injury rehabilitation equipment, hearing aids for the elderly, personal medical equipment, wearables, etc.
3. Transportation(*)
Products in the transportation category include bicycles, electric motorcycles, aerial drones, underwater drones, and components of transportation facilities/infrastructure, such as door designs or bus/train seats that are friendly to seniors and persons with disabilities.
(*)Note: Four-wheeled vehicles, buses, trains, and larger means of transportations are not included in the scope of transportation design in our study program.

Business Entrepreneurship

In Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, business and entrepreneurship have always been the holy grail, including for our study programs. Product development always has an element of adding value and meaning, which is closely related to business and entrepreneurship’s values. With product design and engineering competencies is combined with business and entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, graduates of this study program are ready to work as professionals in established companies or as entrepreneurs in various product development fields.

Students of our study program have various opportunities to access the unique learning methods and atmosphere of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, namely ‘Collaborative Learning by Enterprising’, for examples:
Lecture collaboration with other study programs, which also involve interaction with industrial partners in lecture projects.
Participation in joint programs with universities abroad, for examples in the ‘Design & Entrepreneurship’ program with Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD) (January 2020).
Participation in product design competitions by involving collaboration between students across study programs.
Work-integrated learning programs, such as: On-Job Training, Internship, and Co-op (Cooperative Education) options, where students will directly interact with practitioners during internships in the industry.
Involvement in research and community service programs are led by study program lecturers.

Facilities and Infrastructures

The public lecture facilities are available (classrooms, libraries, canteens) as well as other infrastructure are quality facilities and are kept clean. In addition, the interaction between students and lecturers is also enriched using online Learning Management System, where students can access lecture materials, collect assignments and quizzes, and access e-texts from reference books from various leading academic publishers.
Students of our study program have an access to the various studio rooms, laboratories, and equipments that are in the STEM Laboratory Building. The development of facilities and additional equipment continues to be carried out in stages.
