December 6, 2022, marked the beginning of a new chapter for 1,404 students of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya who have completed their tertiary level of education and received their Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. This momentum is in line with the message conveyed through the theme “Embarking on Fundamental Resetting” which invites graduates to assemble the future post-COVID-19 pandemic.

The graduation ceremony was concluded with a speech by Prof. Dr. Djisman S. Simandjuntak as Chancellor of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya. “One important message I need to pass to all graduates is that for all to be good alumni who uphold the basic values ​​of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya and the values ​​of science; always excel in your professions and value the virtue of professional principles; be responsible citizens of the Republik Indonesia who abide by the law and uphold the core values ​​of Pancasila.”

Dr. Alexius Darmadi K., the Main Director of PT Sumi Asih, also gave another inspiring speech that encouraged graduates to have a whole understanding of circular business, “A circular business puts high importance on market demand. We, as human beings, need to create the supply from what our nature provides, in addition to scientific knowledge that had been gathered by scientists.”

For the past two years, graduation ceremonies have been conducted through hybrid method. This year’s commencement, which was proudly held at Plenary Hall, Jakarta Concention Center, was marked as a once-in-a-lifetime momentum for all graduates. On this special occasion, Prasetiya Mulya achieved another milestone of producing the first batch graduates from three programs, namely S1 International Business Law, S1 Product Design Engineering, and MM in Applied Business Analytics.

Simple Steps to Sustainability

An act, entitled Prasetiya Mulya Class of 2022: Contribution to a Sustainable Environment, was successfully held on November 25, 2022. This symbolized the graduates’ real contribution to helping sustain a healthier environment. The act involved planting of 1,454 mangrove seedlings at the Taman Wisataa Alam Angke Mangrove area, Harapan Island mangrove area, and Kepulauan Seribu area.

Aside from being one of the highlighted events in the ceremony, the planting of mangrove seedlings embodied the application of “Embarking on Fundamental Resetting”. The theme emphasizes the awareness and the importance of rearranging various aspects of life to achieve a better future. It is in high hoped that this tiny step will be the gateway for Prasetiya Mulya to produce various sustainable programs, such as having a greener campus area, better sorting of waste materials, and emerging sustainability in many parts of learning courses.

Achievements Become Investments

It is widely known that Universitas Prasetiya Mulya owns qualified students who are self-motivated and always perform at their very best. The various achievements that have been accomplished have become each graduate’s stepping stone to a bright future. This fact was admitted to be accurate by Yeselia Halim, S.H., an S1 International Business Law Progarm graduate, who was awared the Best Academic Achievement in Program and Best Learning Contribution in the School of Business and Economics, for her perseverance during her four years of study.

A Bachelor of Business Mathematics, Vincentius Christopher Calvin, S. Mat., was presented the Pharos Award for Best Business Mathematics Graduate, Best Academic in Program, and Best of LEAMICA. Those prestigious awards were proudly presented by the President Director of PT Pharos Indonesia. Aside from those awards, there were several other respected awards that were presented by established companies and associations, namely Dexa Group, MSIG, Nutrifood, AFTECH, and BRANDZ BSD.

“Exiting this venue, we can proudly claim that we have completed a chapter in our life journey. However, our struggles in life are far from over. As what we have seen in the previous four years, the future holds no certainty. In the future, when we face difficult times, remember this moment; remember that we have succeedly overcome the hard times.” – Vincentius Christopher Calvin, S. Mat.

In total, there were more than 54 awards given to the 2022 graduates to appreciate their hard work and achievements. Among those awards, one was awarded to Anisatur Rokhmah, a graduate of MM in Applied Business Analytics. Along with the award of Best Academic Achievement in Program, she also won the Best of the Best Academic Achievement award.

Along with entrepreneurial knowledge, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya equips its students with sufficient science and technology knowledge so that they become complete individuals who have the capability to compete nationally or globally. In the year 2022, a total of 75 achievements from both national and international competitions and from various levels of competition were collected. Among those, Prasmul’s students have received awards from numerous prestigious competitions, such as the top 6 Finalists of the 2022 APECS Private Equity Case Competition, 1st Place in Food Waste to Finish (FWTF) Summer School Program at the In2Food Project & Erasmus+ Program of the European Union, and Best Presenter of the International Youth Conference on Village Sustainable Development Goals.

Collaboration of Quantity & Quality

This year, the School of Applied STEM is not only producing 155 graduates, but it has also realized its dream to collaborate science and business through PT Bryte Pelita Indonesia, a company that was started by six students from S1 Product Design Engineering and Renewable Energy Engineering Program. This was certainly celebrated by Prof. Yudi Samyudia, Ph.D., the Dean of the School of Applied STEM, “This achievement is strong evidence that the initial aspirations of establishing the Prasetiya Mulya STEM School have started to produce results that we can be proud of.”

The Dean of the School of Business and Economics, Fathony Rahman, DBA, expressed his appreciation to the 2022 graduates with a speech. He explained how a businessperson can contribute to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SGD), “To achieve SDG, the business world will continue to face challenging and escalating VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) conditions. Under these conditions, the business world will need transformational and sustainable leadership.”
