Universitas Prasetiya Mulya is consistently committed to preserving the environment, reducing carbon emissions, and maintaining ecosystem balance. This vision is realized through various programs, one of which is the movement to plant 1,454 mangrove seedlings as part of last year’s graduation ceremony.

This year, leading up to the upcoming December graduation, Prasmul has initiated the planting of endemic Indonesian trees by establishing a pocket forest on the BSD campus. The plan is to have around 20 species inhabiting the forest.

The term “pocket forest” itself has gained popularity globally since Japan opened the Miyawaki Forest as a response to urban challenges. “Currently, urban areas face various challenges such as the climate crisis, increasing temperatures, worsening air and water quality, and the Urban Heat Island Effect. So, the existence of this artificial forest is expected to proliferate, allowing us to preserve the ecosystem in the city,” explained Soraya Cassandra, CEO of Kebun Kumara.

Together with Kebun Kumara and Nala Renjana, representatives from the Foundation, the Rectorate, and graduating students have planted teak, trembesi, snorkeling, and ulin trees on Thursday, November 23, 2023.

“Planting these three trees may have little or no impact on solving the three fundamental environmental problems, but what we desire is nothing but the positive perception of biodiversity. This will address at least two of the three issues mentioned, namely mitigation and adaptation to climate change, and secondly, the restoration and conservation of biodiversity,” concluded Prof. Dr. Djisman S. Simandjuntak, Rector of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya.
